Freddie Mercury, Cat Lover!

After reading this old article from the October 2007 issue of Blender Magazine, I have a newfound respect for Freddie Mercury. I had no idea he was such a cat lover! Rest in peace, Freddie.

I know Queen's Freddie Mercury was a huge cat lover. How many did he own during his life? What's the most he had at one time?
Elaine Shardot, Houston

According to a 2003 article in Cat Fancy magazine, Mercury adopted lots of cats throughout his life, at one point owning as many as 10. He dedicated his first solo album, Mr. Bad Guy, to four of them, as well as to "all the cat lovers across the universe – screw everybody else." In one of Queen's videos he wore a vest adorned with portraits of several of his cats, painted by Mercury himself. Sometimes while on tour, he'd even call home to chat with his cats, often at exorbitant international rates.

We know a few of the cat's names: Oscar, Tiffany, Goliath, Miko, Romeo, Lily, Tom, Jerry. But his favorite by far was Delilah, a chubby, tri-colored tabby. Mercury dedicated a song on Queen's Innuendo to the plump puss ("I love you, Delilah/Oh, you make me so very happy/You give me kisses and I go out of my mind/Meow, meow, meow, meow"), and she stayed with him literally until the end, curled up beside Mercury when he died of complications from AIDS in 1991.

Cutest Ring Ever!

Cutest ring ever
Originally uploaded by Kitten Moon

Faz Jewelry on Etsy made this ring. Lots of similar pet-themed goodies are in her shop like earrings, necklaces, keychains & hair clips. Not just cats adorn these items, but also dogs & bunnies & even turtles!

The ring I'm wearing in the photo is only $8.00 and can be purchased here! I love this ring. Every time I look at it, I smile, especially because the cat on the ring looks just like my 2 cats, Whiskers & Peanut. :)

Whiskers's First Christmas

Whiskers's First Christmas
Originally uploaded by Kitten Moon

This was taken right after Christmas 1985, when Whiskers was about six weeks old. We had just adopted her from the pet store in Sunvalley Mall in Concord, CA on December 26th, which had been the scene of a terrible accident a few days earlier. A small plane crashed into the mall, causing much destruction, injuries and death. The pet store was on the first floor, sort of below the area where the plane crashed. Whiskers was in the front display box window where God only knows what she saw. I definitely think it traumatized her for life but my family and I tried to make up for it by spoiling her rotten and smothering her with lots of love. She was the queen of our household for the rest of her days.

Kitty Wigs!

Yes, this is really a wig for your cat!!!!!!! You know, I don't think my cat, Peanut, would be very happy if I put one of these on her head, but omg would I love to have a snapshot of her wearing one of these! There are 4 different styles currently available: Pink Passion, Bashful Blonde, Silver Fox, and Electric Blue.

From the site:

"Each Kitty Wig™ comes in an attractive round metal wig case with our fresh new logo on it. Your wig will arrive on a wig form and covered in a hair net to help keep its shape and luster.

The package also includes complete instructions for care, suggestions from professional photographers, and a mouse with rattle to help you direct Kitty's stunned gaze. Every kitty loves the promise of a new toy for model behavior."

The wigs sell for $50 (shipping included for US customers!). 20% of Kitty Wigs profits are donated quarterly to the ASPCA. Yay!

Romeo-Juliet

Why isn't this wonderfulness out on dvd? I remember reading about Armando Acosta's version of Romeo-Juliet waaaaaaaaaaay back when it was being filmed and I've been wanting to see it ever since. I'm crossing my fingers that it will be released someday.
