NOBODY'S PERFECT – BUT CHARLI'S SURE GOING TO TRY

IS THIS A HOPELESS CASE?

Charli Toledo is 100% normal. She wears just the right clothes, gets just the right grades, and her best friend is the mayo's daughter. The coolest sorority in school wants to interview her, and she's trying for the Ivy League. So what's wrong with this picture?
Her mom calls herself Star Galaxy, bakes green-speckled whole grain bread and grows Meadow In A Can for a front lawn. Her stepfather is a muscle-brained Scandinavian weightlifter, and her twin brother is a biker who seems born to die in jail. Worst of all, Bernard Hoeffler, the school's biggest nerd, has suddenly taken to tagging along after Charli, potentially ruining her hard-sought reputation as a member of the Bowling Green elite. Is it hopeless? Not if Charli can help it. She knows exactly who she is and what she wants...or does she?

November 1986 edition

Even though this book was published in 1986, there is a kid in it talking about having a modem & being able to hack into the school's computer & also having the ability to chat online with other people. These topics were definitely not common knowledge back then! Grace Williams was quite prescient!

Current/Elliott 'The Stiletto' White Star Wash Stretch Jeans

It's nice to see printed jeans making a comeback! I remember them being really popular in the 80s. And I know with printed jeans there's a fine line between cute & tacky but I think these Current/Elliot jeans fall safely into the "cute" territory.

Most Unlikely to Succeed

Heather, Ashely, Terry, Blaze. Their guidance counselor has come up with the worst punishment she can think of for their "failings." The four of them have to assign the tag lines underneath every senior's class picture, which is fine except for two things: It's the worst job in school, and the four of them can't stand each other.

But that's at the beginning. By the time they're done, all of their own labels have been stripped away: Heather turns out to be a troubled beauty; Ashley reveals the truth about her famous mother; Terry admits that his fliration is a cover-up, and Blaze can no longer hide the secret about his home life. To everyone's surprise, they've become friends. And to their own, they've become more than friends....

The Cover for Sweet Valley Confidential!

People.com posted the cover today for the HIGHLY anticipated follow-up book (or book series?) Sweet Valley Confidential: Ten Years Later. I'm kind of surprised at the simplicity of the cover but I am digging that it calls back the design of the original Sweet Valley High book series, especially with that "Sweet Valley" font and the girl in the circle.  I was really hoping they'd get the guy who did all the original SVH covers from the 80s, James Mathewuse, to paint updated versions of Elizabeth & Jessica. Alas, I knew deep down that wouldn't happen. At least this cover has a touch of retro-ness and that makes me happy.

What also makes me happy is that this book is FINALLY available for pre-order. It's only taken about 5 years for that to happen! Pre-order it now @ Amazon.com!

1980s Fringe Opener!

I'm a week late to the party on this one, but I just loved Fringe's opening last week to the episode "Peter." So clever and what a great job reprising that "80s" look!

Peaches ‘n Cream™ Barbie® Doll

I really like that Mattel has started to do vintage repros of Barbies from the 1970s & 1980s. Not that I don't love the repros from the 60s, but it's so cool (and kind of bizarre!) to see the Barbies that I remember from my childhood back on the shelves again. 1985's Peaches ‘n Cream™ Barbie® is the latest 80s vintage repro. From the looks of this picture, Mattel did a really good job of faithfully reproducing her. The bodice of her dress looks exactly like how I remember.
