The L.A. Complex
I am pleasantly surprised at how good the newest show on The CW, The L.A. Complex, is. I was expecting a Melrose Place rip-off type of show, but no. I was totally wrong. I just watched the first two episodes & it's safe to say I am already hooked. Yes, it does have some similarities to Melrose Place, such as the main characters are all attractive 20?somethings living in the same apartment complex ("The Lux" motel). But these characters are all focused on making it in the entertainment industry, which is a storyline I am always a sucker for. And I like that the characters are portrayed more realistically than in other similarly themed shows. I know it hasn't been getting great ratings, so I am hoping good word-of-mouth will save it. It's totally worth it!

Chasing Mummies
From History Channel's website:
Digging up ancient treasures is dirty and dangerous business, and nobody knows that better than the legendary Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass. HISTORY's cameras follow closely as he and his cadre of fellows unearth astonishing finds and tackle some of the world's greatest archaeological riddles, from who built the pyramids to the location of Cleopatra's tomb. It's a whirlwind tour, led by the man who holds the keys to Egypt's greatest antiquities and rules his world like a modern-day pharaoh. Unfiltered, entertaining, exciting and suspenseful, "Chasing Mummies" lets viewers share in the thrills and hardships facing the team and crew as they toil to reveal what lies beneath the sand. With its wealth of historical information and blow-by-blow coverage of world-altering discoveries, this series breaks new ground—literally.
Chasing Mummies airs Wednesdays on HISTORY at 10pm.

1980s Fringe Opener!
I'm a week late to the party on this one, but I just loved Fringe's opening last week to the episode "Peter." So clever and what a great job reprising that "80s" look!

Kate Winslet as Mildred Pierce

I usually shun any remakes, especially if it's a classic old Hollywood movie being remade (Hello The Women
From Zap2it.com:
HBO has picked up a miniseries adaptation of "Mildred Pierce
The five-hour miniseries, which Todd Haynes ("I'm Not There," "Far From Heaven") co-wrote and will direct, is scheduled to begin filming in New York in the spring, HBO confirms to Zap2it. Winslet will play the title role, a Depression-era housewife who separates from her husband to try to provide for her two daughters -- including one contemptuous of her mother having to work for a living.
Rumors of the project have been circulating for several weeks, and HBO sealed a deal with MGM, John Wells Productions and Killer Films to co-produce the project.
James M Cain's 1941 novel was previously adapted into a 1945 film that earned Joan Crawford a best actress Oscar. The movie was also nominated for best picture.
The miniseries will be Winslet's first role on American television (she appeared in a handful of British shows at the start of her career). Haynes and Jon Raymond ("Wendy and Lucy") collaborated on the script.

Lace & Lace II Coming to DVD!
Yes!!!!!!!! I have been hoping for years and years that Lace & Lace II would make it to dvd. I've been obsessed with both tv movies (nothing beats the first one though) ever since they aired in the 80s. I was a bit too young to understand what was really going on in them, but that didn't stop me from loving them. I even saved the issue of TV Guide that featured Phoebe Cates on the cover when Lace II came out. I posted the cover (above) and the article scans on my Flickr, all of which you can see here!
Okay, back to the dvds! Warner Archive will be releasing them as MODs, which means Manufacture-On-Demand. Each movie is 2 dvds long and costs $19.95.

Will Disney Ditch Tom Sawyer Island for a 'Lost' Ride?
From TheWrap.com:
A group of die-hard "Lost" fans is urging Disney to pay homage to ABC's "Lost" by building a ride based on the show at one of its theme parks.
A crazy idea? Not to "Lost" overlords Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse, who've seemed to endorse the idea by backing an online petition urging Disney to consider the idea.
The budding Internet movement began with a "Lost" fan named Jon Stueve, who suggested the concept by arguing that "Disney should give this awesome show its due" by creating a "Lost Island" at either Disneyland or Disney World.
Lindelof and Cuse apparently agree: They've both indicated, via their respective Twitter feeds, that they're on board.
"Consider the petition signed!" wrote Lindelof Tuesday.
Cuse, meanwhile, gave thumbs up as well.
"While I like the idea of Tom Sawyer's island getting a LOST do-over, I'd rather see Disney make a big LOST E-ticket ride," the producer wrote. (Disney revamped Tom Sawyer Island a few years ago; it's now officially Pirate's Lair at Tom Sawyer Island).
As of early Wednesday morning, the petition has attracted about 1500 signatures. But the idea could be going viral: Yahoo! featured a link to a blog post about the movement on its homepage Tuesday night.
So what would a "Lost Island" look like? The petition suggested including the following show landmarks in any design:
--The frozen donkey wheel behind the Orchid Station testing chamber.
- -The Swan station and Hatch ride
-- A submarine ride to Palu Ferry.
-- Dharmaville Barracks.
-- Smoke monster
- -Jacob's Cabin.
Disney these days has shown more of a willingness to turn park attractions into filmed entertainment than vice versa. But "Lost" clearly has a big fan base, making the notion of some sort of attraction not completely insane -- particularly since Cuse and Lindelof have indicated they're not behind the notion of a movie or spinoff series after the show signs off in May.
Stay tuned.
