Trailers for all three upcoming Green Day records are now out! The first record, ¡Uno!, will be released on 9/25. Amazon just put up the pre-order page. I'm so psyched for all the new Green Day music headed our way!
Awesome As F**k, a brand new live cd plus bonus dvd from my favorite band Green Day is coming out March 15! A trailer for it was just released today. Check it out below! Also, Awesome As F**k can be pre-ordered on Amazon.com right now!
Finally! I've been waiting & waiting for Green Day to make a graphics driven video. They did it after all these years and it's better than I could have imagined!
I am not sure why this was made, but it should totally be released as an official music video. It captures the excitement and energy of their live shows extremely well!
Here are two interviews from opening night of the musical American Idiot. I saw it the other week during its preview run @ Berkeley Rep and for this Green Day fanatic, it was everything I was hoping it would be.
Green Day are currently touring the US right now (woohoo!) and so far, they've played 2 unreleased songs! One of them, Drama Queen, was apparently taken off 21st Century Breakdown to make room for Murder City. The other, Tell Me When It's Time to Say I Love You, was played last night at Madison Square Garden for the first time. It is supposedly an unreleased song from the American Idiot era. I love both and I hope official studio versions come out someday!
I'm so excited for Green Day's new record to come out on May 15th! I was one of the lucky ones who got to hear the album live at the DNA Lounge in San Francisco last week and omg, was it fantastic! Standouts to me are the title track 21st Century Breakdown, Know Your Enemy, 21 Guns, Murder City and Last of the American Girls. I'm going to see the band again tomorrow at the Fox Theater, where I'm sure they'll be playing the new record again, especially since they'll be filming the show this time!
Another reason I am so glad I live in the bay area! My favorite band (a.k.a. Green Day) are turning their last album into my favorite form of theater: a musical!
Green Day's 'Idiot' heads to the stage Musical version of album to bow at Berkeley By DAVID ROONEY, GORDON COX
A legit tuner version of the 2004 Green Day album "American Idiot" will open the 2009-10 season at Berkeley Repertory Theater.
Michael Mayer, who picked up a 2007 Tony for his direction of "Spring Awakening," will helm "American Idiot." Mayer co-writes the book with Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong, who conceived the punk-opera album and wrote most of the lyrics. The band -- comprising Armstrong, Mike Dirnt and Tre Cool -- is credited with music for the show.
Co-produced by Rob Cavallo and Green Day, the "American Idiot" disc sold more than 12 million copies worldwide and won Grammy Awards for rock album and record of the year. Upon its release, it was widely compared to classic rock opera/concept albums such as the Who's "Tommy," which was turned into a Broadway hit in 1993; and Pink Floyd's "The Wall," also in development as a stage musical for the Weinstein Co.
A nihilistic coming-of-age story drenched in post-9/11 paranoia, "American Idiot" follows disaffected contemporary American Everykid Jesus of Suburbia as he morphs into violent, drug-dealing alter-ego St. Jimmy and falls for anarchist girlfriend Whatsername.
Hits spawned by the album include the title song, "Boulevard of Broken Dreams" and "Wake Me Up When September Ends."
Choreography is by Steven Hoggett, movement director on the National Theater of Scotland's well-received 2007 production "Black Watch," which has toured internationally and played two sellout stints Off Broadway.
Berkeley Rep preem for the musical represents a nod to the Bay Area roots of Green Day, which launched its career there in the late '80s.
No Broadway plans have been announced for the show.
The San Fran-area regional already has announced the rest of its 2009-10 season, which also includes another new rock-inspired tuner, "Girlfriend," based on the 1991 Matthew Sweet album. Berkeley Rep in 2006 staged the world premiere of "Passing Strange," musician Stew's rock odyssey that was further developed at New York's Public Theater before moving to Broadway.
Green Day's eighth studio album, "21st Century Breakdown," drops May 15, with the band expected to kick off a world tour following the opening of "American Idiot."
There's a new Green Day record coming out in May, entitled 21st Century Breakdown. Yay!!!!!!!!! I cannot wait for this record to come out. It's been over 4 years since American Idiot's release. Much much MUCH too long for this GD superfan!
I'm not too crazy about Butch Vig producing the new Green Day record, but at least my favorite band is finally back in the studio! It's been much too much too long since a new Green Day record (I love 'em but Foxboro Hot Tubs doesn't count IMO). But Butch Vig? I like Garbage & all, but I dunno.... I hope their long time producer, Rob Cavallo, still has a role SOMEwhere on this new record....
Green Day in studio with Nirvana producer By Jonathan Cohen Tue Oct 14, 8:17 PM ET
NEW YORK (Billboard) - Confirming news that Garbage frontwoman Shirley Manson let slip recently on "The Carson Daly Show," Green Day is in the studio with veteran producer Butch Vig working on the follow-up to 2004's "American Idiot."
In a video posted over the weekend on YouTube, the band is seen in the control room as the camera pans over to Vig, who smiles and extends his middle finger. Instrumental bits of two new songs are heard in the background.
Vig is best known for his work on Nirvana's "Nevermind" but has also logged time behind the boards with Smashing Pumpkins and Sonic Youth, in addition to his musician role in Garbage. Of late, he has produced albums from Jimmy Eat World, Against Me! and Tad.
Green Day worked with producer Rob Cavallo on "American Idiot," a Grammy-winning smash that has sold 5.8 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The group reappeared this spring masquerading as the band Foxboro Hot Tubs, releasing an album and playing a handful of small club shows. The upcoming Green Day album, as-yet-untitled, is expected next year via Warner Bros.
