Sweet Valley High - The Movie!

This has the potential for fabulousness, but I hope to God it doesn't go the way of the horrible tv show adaptation.

From Variety:

Diablo Cody takes on 'Sweet Valley'
'Juno' writer to pen, produce Universal film
By DAVE MCNARY

Diablo Cody's heading back to high school, signing on to write and produce an adaptation of the "Sweet Valley High" book series for Universal. Mason Novick, Adam Siegel and Marc Platt are also producing.
U agreed to a deal with Cody and her manager Novick, outbidding Fox for the project. It's in talks to acquire the film rights to the book series created by Francine Pascal and published by Random House.

The "Sweet Valley" novels followed the lives of identical twins with dissimilar personalities -- the sensitive and practical Elizabeth and the flighty and boy-crazy Jessica -- in the fictional town of Sweet Valley. There were more than 150 books in the series between 1983 and 2003 and a TV series with 88 episodes between 1994 and 1997.

U put out the word last week that it's not spending money for the rest of this year to advance development projects -- unless they're being fast-tracked or greenlit (Daily Variety, Sept. 18). Deal comes on the heels of a tepid opening for "Jennifer's Body," which Cody scripted.

Cody's also attached to produce "Breathers: A Zombie's Lament" for Fox Searchlight.

"East Jesus Nowhere" - Green Day

I am not sure why this was made, but it should totally be released as an official music video. It captures the excitement and energy of their live shows extremely well!

Michael Douglas as...Liberace?!!!

I've been hoping for years that Hollywood would make a biopic about the one and only Liberace. I was rooting for Kevin Spacey to portray Liberace, but I think Michael Douglas is a great alternative! I am really looking forward to seeing this.

From People.com

Michael Douglas To Play Liberace
By Peter Mikelbank
Originally posted Tuesday September 15, 2009 09:00 AM EDT

Michael Douglas is taking a sharp turn from his usual roles to tackle the lead in a film biography of the campy musical performer Liberace, and Matt Damon is playing his longtime lover, director Steven Soderbergh confirmed.

"We've already done some costume and wardrobe tests on Michael, and they're very, very, very good." Soderbergh told a French newspaper at the Deauville Film Festival. "I swear to you, Michael amazed me. He crushed it."

Born Wladziu Valentino, the flamboyant, piano-playing Liberace, nicknamed "Mr. Showmanship" and "Glitter Man," was a staple of early 1950s television, and was an institution in Las Vegas until his death from AIDS in 1987. At his height, he made more money than Elvis and The Beatles.

Damon, Soderbergh said, has agreed to portray Scott Thorsen, the assistant/boyfriend whose 1982 palimony suit for $110 million publically outed the entertainer.

"Matt accepted the challenge," Soderbergh said. "But I have to say I'd already convinced him to gain 30 pounds for The Informant."

Liberace will be filmed off a script by writer/director Richard Lagravense, who was responsible for The Bridges of Madison County. Soderbergh said the budget will allow filmmakers to re-stage segments of Liberace's spectacular stage act, which often involved elaborate stunts such as flying or driving to his piano bench in a Rolls-Royce.

Here are two interviews from opening night of the musical American Idiot. I saw it the other week during its preview run @ Berkeley Rep and for this Green Day fanatic, it was everything I was hoping it would be.

Also, the cover of my band's ep Speed Kills is used as part of the set decoration! It's a very small part of the set, but it's there! And not once, but twice! (They're right next to each other.) Here's a picture of it:
