Chasing Mummies

My summer guilty pleasure, right next to Big Brother (Team Britney)!

From History Channel's website:
Digging up ancient treasures is dirty and dangerous business, and nobody knows that better than the legendary Egyptologist Dr. Zahi Hawass. HISTORY's cameras follow closely as he and his cadre of fellows unearth astonishing finds and tackle some of the world's greatest archaeological riddles, from who built the pyramids to the location of Cleopatra's tomb. It's a whirlwind tour, led by the man who holds the keys to Egypt's greatest antiquities and rules his world like a modern-day pharaoh. Unfiltered, entertaining, exciting and suspenseful, "Chasing Mummies" lets viewers share in the thrills and hardships facing the team and crew as they toil to reveal what lies beneath the sand. With its wealth of historical information and blow-by-blow coverage of world-altering discoveries, this series breaks new ground—literally.

Chasing Mummies airs Wednesdays on HISTORY at 10pm.

Pink Purse With Bettie Page™ Lucky Charm

This is a truly gorgeous purse. I wish it was a tad bit bigger though. It only measures 7 ½” high including the handle (4 ¼” not including the handle). I carry way too much crap in my purse to get away with using such a small purse for daily use, but I can definitely see using this for special events.

The purse on its own is $39.99 but you can choose to add a matching Bettie Page Love Bettie heart compact for only $10 more!

Lady Gaga Bad Romance Eyes

I assumed that the freakishly huge eyes Lady Gaga sports in her Bad Romanceicon video were achieved through CGI. Until I read the article below, I didn't know you could actually semi-achieve this look in real life through circle contact lenses. After looking at some photos of girls wearing these special contact lenses, I have to admit I do like the way they make your eyes look! They give you that innocent doe-eyed look of an anime character. I would never ever put something in my eyes that wasn't fitted by a doctor though. Plus I'd feel kind of ridiculous wearing them, so for now, I'll stay on the sidelines and just admire from afar!

From New York Daily News

Girls clamor for 'circle' contact lenses inspired by Lady Gaga, but they're risky and illegal

The wider-than-life peepers that Lady Gaga sported in her “Bad Romance” video may have been computer-generated, but those dramatic, anime-style eyes are being copied by young women with circle contact lenses.

Unfortunately, the lenses can cause infections and even vision loss.

No major manufacturer of contact lenses in the U.S. offers the colored contacts, which make eyes look bigger by covering not only the iris but part of the whites, according to The New York Times. But they’re readily available online without a prescription for around $20 to $30 a pair, and young women discover where to find them on message boards and YouTube videos.

Read the rest of the article here!

And here's a tutorial on how to achieve that Lady Gaga Bad Romanceicon look. You need the circle lenses of course!

Lindsay Lohan - Hollywood Life Magazine, July/August 2003

Lindsay Lohan - Hollywood Life Magazine, July/August 2003
Originally uploaded by Kitten Moon

I was going through some old magazines and I found this highly ironic and inaccurate article about Linsday Lohan. It was originally published in Hollywood Life's July/August 2003 issue. Click on the image for a larger view.

Here's what the article says:

Hollywood being fraught with sybaritic, drug-addled teen actors as it is, it's refreshing to find an earthy charmer like singer/actress Lindsay Lohan, who first garnered notice with both critics and audiences for her dual role in the 1998 remake The Parent Trap. "My parents have kept me really grounded," the 17-year-old native New Yorker says. "I don't want to seem obnoxious or think I'm any different from anyone else. I've seen actors my age who are like that already, and it's not pretty."

Lohan, who has been modeling and doing TV commercials since the age of three, is currently filming the comedy Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen; before that, she'll be seen in another Disney remake, Freaky Friday, in which she does the personality switcheroo with movie mom Jamie Lee Curtis. The multitalented redhead is also handling vocals on two songs in Friday, and her budding singing career (which also includes an album being produced by Emilio Estefan) ties in neatly with her long-range goals. "I'd like to win an Oscar and a Grammy someday. That'd be so hot," Lohan says. "I'd go on tour and live like a rock star, dammit!"

Look-Alikes

I just watched Midnight Cowboy for the first time, and I was extremely distracted by the fact that young Jon Voight totally resembles his granddaughter, Shiloh Jolie Pitt! Also, every time the song Everybody's Talkin came on, I kept thinking at first that it was Chris Isaak singing, not Harry Nilsson, even though the movie came out in 1969. To me, it completely has the "sound" of a Chris Isaak song. I'd love to hear him do a cover of it.

Marilyn Monroe's House is for Sale

I am so fascinated by this! I would love to go and take a look at this house in person, not because she died here, but because she lived here. Plus it looks like a beautiful house. It definitely doesn't look as creepy and sad as it does in all those black & white photos following her passing. I hope whoever buys this house keeps the remodeling to a minimum. I've read that a previous owner did some serious upgrades to the house & things are not as they were when Marilyn owned it. Bummer. At least it hasn't been torn down and McMansioned yet!

There's been a flurry of articles online regarding the sale. Here are some good ones:

Curbed LA
The Real Estalker
Daily Mail
The Marilyn Monroe Collection

Here's the realtor's website. Great pictures & slideshow on here:

New post...finally!

I know I haven't blogged in a while. I lost my father last month and today would have been his 84th birthday. It's been a very traumatic and sad time for my family and I, and the last thing on my mind has been keeping this blog up to date. I'm very thankful for all the blog visits while I've been "away." I'll be back posting at my regular pace now. Hopefully more often, because there's just way too much cute stuff out there in this crazy world that I want to share with y'all!

One more thing...

Happy birthday Dad.
